Shambhava Center - Yoga
and More!
The word "yoga" translates from Sanskrit to mean "union of
spirit, mind and body." While in the west, yoga is often considered merely a
form of physical exercise, it actually encompasses much more.
After years of pursuing life at a frantic pace to acquire as
much as possible, there is a nagging awareness that we need more, but more of
what is unclear. In conversations with my clients and other friends, I have come
to believe that what we are looking for is spirituality.
The Shambhava School of Yoga - Midland, Texas, is a
meditation center that works in conjunction with my yoga classes. It is open to
everyone who wishes to find that spirituality within them. People of all
religious beliefs are welcome.
In the introduction to Spontaneous Recognition, Faith
Stone writes:
Without denying our inherently pure nature, there is the
recognition that due to obscurations ... we are unable to live in the pure
state. For this reason, we use the methods of the great sages, seers, and
enlightened beings throughout history, especially mantra repetition,...
cultivation of love and devotion for God,... and meditation.
Sri Shambhavananda Yogi, my teacher in this practice says:
Spiritual work generates the energy and the discipline to
literally burn up the things that bind you here. It doesn’t mean that you have
to reject things. It means that you have to generate enough energy to transcend
them.
Join us to learn what has been missing in your frantic life.
Come - explore your heart.
Yoga Class Information
and Schedule
In an effort to keep the Shambhava Yoga Center’s activities
fresh and growing, we are always adding new classes and modifying existing ones.
Listed below is the schedule of yoga and meditation classes for the upcoming
months. Most of them are free of charge (although donations are always
welcome!), and those that have a fee are indicated.
Yoga teaches you not only how to become more flexible in both
body and mind, but teaches how to breathe properly (something most of us never
do), and to pay attention to how you are moving through your day. There is a
spiritual component to yoga that is very important, and as you learn to deal
with tension and stress, you will also learn how to incorporate your
spirituality into your daily life as well, whatever your spiritual beliefs may
be. It is not my job to tell you what to believe. It is only my job to remind
you of it and to help you make it a larger part of your life.
Meditation is a way to learn an even deeper inner focus.
Through meditation, you learn how to quiet your mind so you can hear that
"still, small voice within." We begin by learning breath awareness. Most of the
great spiritual teachers whose work is studied and followed today used
meditation, contemplation and deep prayerful work as part of their daily
practice. Come, try it and see if it is something you would like to make part of
your life as well.
