Ayurvedic Consultation What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is the world’s oldest recorded healing system. Many thousands of doctors have used it on millions of patients for over 5000 years, making it a proven system of prevention and healing. The goal of Ayurveda is to achieve health by working toward balance and harmony, not by fighting disease. This means that prevention is emphasized over cure. In the total health picture, Ayurveda acknowledges the importance of physical balance, emotional release, mental health, and spiritual progress. In the West, we suffer more from auto-immune diseases (i.e., arthritis, allergies, heart disease, cancer and even addiction) than anywhere else in the world. Western medicine does well in cases of traumatic injury, acute and emergency care. Ayurveda uses a low-tech approach to healing, but is an all-inclusive body of knowledge that can be adapted to all people and climates. Ayurveda may be the basis of a global medicine which is accessible and affordable to all because it uses natural forces (i.e., heat, cold, light, herbs, foods, exercise, and meditation). Currently, Ayurveda is the rage in alternative medicine with thousands of people looking to Deepak Chopra, M.D., for help, and turning to Ayurvedic clinics around the world. There are several levels of treatment in Ayurveda. Through the most basic, after understanding their metabolic type and their own inherent strengths and weaknesses, people are able to treat themselves with simple diet and lifestyle changes. What is the philosophy of Ayurveda? Ayurvedic theory believes that health results from harmony within us. To be healthy, harmony, - or balance, - must exist between your purpose for being, your thoughts, your feelings and your physical actions. If your purpose is peaceful but your thoughts are fearful and your emotions are negative, your physical body will manifest some dis-ease as a wake up call to change. In Ayurveda, the manifestation of disease is actually considered a good sign because it reveals a hidden aspect of oneself that needs to be healed. Health is the indicator of harmony within all aspects of oneself, which becomes harmony with family, friends, co-workers, society and nature. Ayurvedic philosophy believes that only with a strong immune system can a person be healthy. Disease, therefore, is a message that there is need for change. Knowing this, we can see disease as an opportunity to change and heal ourselves. How do I learn about my metabolic type? A simple, comprehensive questionnaire will help determine your metabolic type. There are three main types, all of which manifest in each of us in varying degrees. I will lead you through the questionnaire and, in follow-up discussions, we will determine the best course of action for you to correct problem areas and enhance strong areas. How do I get started? Call for an appointment. The first appointment can last up to 1.5 hours for our discussion and exploration into your needs. We will then schedule follow-up sessions as necessary. What is the cost? $80 per hour, which includes my review of your questionnaire and notes on our discussion, and development and maintenance of your personal program. Call today to start your first steps on the road to total health!
